The students at Kaplan’s English language school in Portland have launched a four-page monthly newspaper. They write about Portland events, restaurant reviews and advice for new students.
It started with writing articles in class. The students enjoyed the lessons so much that the teacher, Sadie Dickman, decided to turn the fun and innovative activity into a newspaper.

“Everyone at the college takes a newspaper when they come out, and the writers are really proud to have their by-lines in the paper! I am so, so proud. The students work so well together, and I get such creative and intelligent articles,” said teacher Sadie Dickman.
The students recently published a “literature edition”, full of student fiction. The Kaplan Times encourages anyone to participate and students can write about anything they are interested in.
What a great way for students to improve their English!
If you are unfamiliar with Portland, Oregon you should check it out. It’s a really cool city. Therefore, it’s not a surprise Kaplan has expanded its Portland language school. They’re offering specialized holiday learning programs, general English courses and more.
